In many respects, Freemasonry may be regarded as the oldest universal heroic organization in the world. Heroic organizations have existed since the beginning of human civilization and can be traced to every tribe or culture. But what is a heroic organization?

A heroic organization is a group of individuals who place an emphasis on the heroes of the past; the creators of the culture we inherit. This is done for two main reasons.

1.  To show gratitude for the ones who came before us, and to be modest in our actions.
"We stand on the shoulders of giants".

2. That we might study the details of their actions and character,
so that we can make a difference in our own lives.
"Better men make a better world".

We look to heroes of the past such as: George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Wolfgang Mozart, etc.

And also, to heroes of ancient mythology: King Solomon, David, Moses, Etc.

In many countries and regions of the world, this duty is still performed by Freemasons. But as citizens of Larimer County, we don't need to search very far to locate a hero...

Our First Responders show us every day that they are the heroes of our time.

By the ability to think critically under intense circumstances, they demonstrate Wisdom. They summon courage in the face of danger and emulate Strength. At the end of the day, they go home to their families. They shop at our stores and attend local baseball games. You will never find them wearing a sign which reads "I am a hero", as the last defining characteristic of a hero, is their humility. However, if you watch, you can spot a hero in the crowd. Their compassion and considerate natures leave a trail wherever they go, which decorates our community with Beauty

We can look to our First Responders to learn what it means to be a HERO.
